At Amway we believe it is our responsibility to give back to our communities. On a global basis Amway has supported the 'One by One' campaign since 2003.
This campaign rallies the resources of the entire Alticor family of companies, IBO's, employees, affiliates and customers to make a difference to millions of children across the globe. Since its inception, employees and IBO's globally have given opportunity and hope to more than 6 million children and raised in excess of US$70 million via the One by One campaign.
Across the globe Amway has helped children with cleft palates in Thailand and blind children with Brailled books in India, we have built playground for rural children in Korea, helped mentally disabled childred in Japan and village children in Mexico. Each affiliate selects its own children's charity.
Amway has a long history of providing hope and opportunity not only through the Sales and Marketing Plan, but also through charitable contributions. Amway of Australia has supported Children's Cancer Institute Australia (CCIA) for 10 years. The CCIA is the only independent medical research institute in Australia dedicated to research into causes, cure and prevention of childhood cancer. With your support, we have raised more then $1.6 million directed to critical research into childhood cancer. We will continue to make a difference by supporting charities and giving back to our community.
From 2007 onwards Amway of Australia through the One by One Trust will support the 'FREEDOM WHEELS' Campaign.
'FREEDOM WHEELS' was devised for the purpose of providing bicycles which have been technically modified to enable their use by children with disabilities. Amway of Australia and the One by One Trust has entered a contractual agreement to be the 'Principal Corporate Sponsor' of 'FREEDOM WHEELS'. The Contractual arragement is with Technical Aid to the Disabled (TADNSW). TAD is the charitable organisation established for the purpose of providing technical aid for people with disabilites.
For hundreds of children with disabilities, experiencing the freedom and excitement of riding a bike wasn't possible. But now, thanks to the Technical Aid to the Disabled (TAD) NSW and their team of engineers, these children are experiencing a burst of movement that they have never felt before.
The engineers at TAD modify bikes ranging in size, so that children of all ages with disabilities are able to ride the bikes by themselves. The children involved in the project attend bike clinics to learn how to ride the customised bikes and are usually confident enough to ride on their own after going to two clinic sessions.
Most of the children that TAD work with have cerebral palsy - a condition that affects the way the brain controls body muscles, making it difficult or almost impossible to move and control posture. In the last few years, technological developments have helped make the lives of people with cerebral palsy easier. From talking devices to the modified bikes, the best thing that technology has given these people is the chance to more easily interact with others. And that is definitely one thing the children that TAD work with enjoy the most - the ability to ride their bikes with their friends and siblings.
An inital contribution of $100,000 was made to TADNSW by Peter Williams, Regional Vice President, Amway of Australia, New Zealand and South Africa in November 2006 with an additional $50,000 being provided to fast track the service into Queensland. Another contribution of $100,000 has been pledged for 1 November 2007.
The vision is that the 'FREEDOM WHEELS' program which currently operates on a small scale in NSW, will expand and be offered nationally. How wonderful it will be to provide modified bikes for children in all states across Australia! Mobile 'FREEDOM WHEELS' branded vehicles are just one way to help expand the national vision. With the inital contribution, TAD is able to purchase a vehicle, however, to expand 'FREEDOM WHEELS' will require more moeny, and good hearted volunteers. We are in the business of changing lives and giving hope to people. You are in the business of changing lives and giving hope to people! We know that this vision to reach as many children as possible can be realised. The freedom of movement is one we all take for granted. Hundreds of children don't have the privilage of movement. The joy of riding a bike is something they will never experience, unless we reach out and give them the 'FREEDOM WHEELS' journey. We invite you to contribute, and share in the spirit of giving! Together, we can change more lives.
