Clean Up Australia Day
Each year, we participates in Clean Up Australia Day and Earth Hour to help clean up and conserve our local environment. Clean Up Australia Day is a highly-anticipated initiative especially by our staff, who love to get out and clean up the local community. It is a fun day that allows us to get out of the office and make a difference in our community.
Earth Hour is fun initiative we participate in every year. It’s a time to get away from our desks, turn off our computers and have some fun and games in the staff living room.
National Recycling Week
For the last 2 years, Amway has participated in National Recycling Week. This involved daily communication to all staff on the benefits of recycling and handy tips, as well as communications around the office educating staff on recycling, and an extra focus on recycling Amway materials. During the week, staff also participate in environmental and litter-reduction initiatives.
One of the most recent environmental initiatives comes from an unlikely location – the parking areas of the WHQ campus in Ada, Michigan USA with the development of landscaped bioswales.
“A bioswale is a stormwater retention area that has a lot of vegetation and growth in it,” said Rick Van Dellen, Amway’s Environmental Lead. “It allows the water to percolate down through the soil and also for the plants to absorb the water and transpire it up.”
Ada’s campus is developing several of these bioswales that use specialised landscaping to slow, collect, filter and absorb rain runoff from roofs, streets and parking lots.
These bioswales are the latest in a long line of Amway initiatives that ensure good stewardship of the environment.
