A greener future: Innovative products safe for the environment

Document Date Posted:

Since 1959, Amway’s mission is to help people lead healthier lives by creating products that support a healthy lifestyle without harming the environment.

While the green movement and sustainability gained momentum during the pandemic, Amway was the first company to develop the L.O.C. ™ Multi-Purpose Cleaner, a green, biodegrable cleaner in 1959!

Amway products are safe for your family, made sustainably and don’t cause harm to the environment in which the ingredients are grown, processed or packaged. Amway products are perfect for those wanting better health and safe, non-toxic, organic supplements, makeup and skincare and home cleaning products.

Here are a few ways in which Amway ensures the quality and greenness of its products so you experience only great health benefits and outstanding products.

Organic farming practices which preserve the land

A big problem facing our planet today is companies using up natural resources and leaving widespread damage behind including pollutants that enter the ecosystems.1

Amway products are better because the company follows organic farming practices when it comes to growing product ingredients. Amway controls the entire process – from seed to tablet production. Where the ingredient can’t be grown, Amway uses certified organic suppliers to source it.

All NUTRILITE™ organic farms follow sustainable practices so the land can be preserved well into the future. Prior to planting the seeds, the team ensures the soil is healthy and rich in nutrients. We have nearly 6000 acres of certified organic farmland. Today, many plant-based botanical ingredients are grown on NUTRILITE™ farms in accordance with their unique geographical needs

NUTRIWAY™ is part of NUTRILITE™, the only global vitamin and mineral brand to grow, harvest and process plants on their own certified organic farms.*

We also minimise the potential for trace amounts of genetically modified material unintentionally getting mixed in during the growing and harvesting of raw ingredients

Amway is a non-GMO brand

What is GMO? According to National Geographic, a genetically modified organism (GMO) is an animal, plant or microbe whose DNA has been changed using genetic engineering techniques.2

Why is GMO harmful to humans, animals and the planet?

Research shows that genetically-modified crop technology can lead to higher usage of herbicides and weeds that are resistant to herbicides. Using herbicides affects the existing biodiversity and upsets the delicate balance of the ecosystem.3

In human beings, genetically modified food can cause toxicity in the blood, pancreas, kidneys or fertility systems leading to serious diseases.4

Amway intentionally uses non-GMO plants and complies with all global GMO labelling requirements so you get the best quality, non-GMO products.

Being a non GMO-brand also means:

  • Being able to trace the material from seed, through harvesting, to raw material and finished good production.
  • Creating buffer zones around crops that minimise ‘drift’ of pollens and seeds from GMO crops carried by wind, birds and other animals.
  • Keeping all farm and production equipment for non-GMO plants only.
  • Using natural barriers, such as planting upwind from neighbouring farms.
  • Staggering plantings to be off-cycle with neighbouring farms.
  • Maintaining good working relationships with neighbouring farmers and monitoring whether they are growing GMO crops.
  • The ability to trace raw material production and transport of the material to the finished good producer.
  • Verified data collection on each product lot (i.e. batch).

    Safer Choice Label

Anytime you see the safer choice label on a product, it has safer and better ingredients for the environment without affecting its quality and performance.

Amway partnered with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in 2008 to meet their rigorous standards in their Design for the Environment (DfE) program, now known as Safer Choice. The Design for the Environment (DfE) works towards reducing the overall human, health and environmental impact of a product, process or service.5

There are now more than 40 Amway home care products that are recognised by Safer Choice. It gives you peace of mind knowing that the products you’re using in your home, for your health, and around your children won’t cause harm.

    Sustainable and recyclable packaging

Landfill full of used plastic packaging is a huge problem for our environment and ecosystems. In recognising this global challenge, we are dedicated to reducing the environmental impact of our packaging. 95% of our product packaging in Australia and New Zealand is now readily recyclable.

We’re also a member of the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation which is committed to keeping packaging materials out of landfill and retains the maximum value of the materials, energy and labour within the local economy.6

Our business centres also offer green, recyclable bags to our associates. We’ve also replaced our plastic straws with recyclable paper straws across all Amway Business Centres in Australia and New Zealand.

So when you buy Amway products, you’re playing a part in making the future greener and your health better.
