RETAILING AMWAY PRODUCTS
AMWAY has rules in place when it comes to Independent Business Owners (IBOs) retailing AMWAY products. Under Rule 3.6 of the Rules of Conduct, AMWAY products must not be displayed, promoted or supplied in retail locations. This is to protect the direct selling nature of the business and to create a fair level playing field for all IBOs.
WHAT IS CONSIDERED A RETAIL LOCATION?
A retail location includes any retail stores, supermarkets, school fairs, sports carnivals, public stalls, and any other public events. A retail location can also include online internet services, including e-commerce shopping sites.
Despite the rule against selling Amway products in retail locations, Amway has a number of exceptions whereby this may be acceptable.
THE RETAIL RULE EXCEPTION #1: BOOTH & EVENTS.
An IBO may apply and, with the express permission from AMWAY, promote or retail certain products at selected events. An application needs to be made to Amway and an IBO must receive an authorisation certificate before they can attend an event.
Please visit our ‘Booth and Events’ page for more information.
THE RETAIL RULE EXCEPTION #2: PROMOTING SATINIQUE®, ARTISTRY® OR NUTRIWAY® IN A RELATED BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT.
This exception allows IBOs to retail certain products provided they work in professions relating to the product they wish to sell. The IBO must have completed a Government accredited program in order to promote such products in a retail location.
The only exceptions are as follows;
- an accredited beautician or masseuse can retail Artistry products in a one-on-one environment to a paying customer at their salon; or
- an accredited hairdresser can retail Satinique products in a one-on-one environment to a paying customer at their salon; or
- a doctor or naturopath can recommend Nutriway products in a one-on-one environment within their practice; or
- a qualified personal trainer can recommend Fuel Factor® products to their clients.
It should be noted that all sales must take place in a one-on-one environment, and any products or advertisements for the products must not be openly displayed within the salon or practice.
Please refer to rules 3.6.3 (a)-(b) in our Rules of Conduct for IBOs and our ‘FAQ Business’ guide for further information regarding this rule.
RETAILING AND THE WEB
IBOs should be aware that they are not permitted to advertise AMWAY products in an open, online environment. Rule 3.9.24 of the Rules of Conduct state that IBOs are prohibited from advertising AMWAY products or the AMWAY Business Opportunity in a public forum. This includes e-commerce sites such as eBay and Gumtree.
Please note that AMWAY regularly monitors these e-commerce sites to ensure that all IBOs comply with the Rules of Conduct.
